Severe Weather Policy Checklist

Student Services Representative

_____  Campus leader/designee and Academic Leadership decide to make a recommendation on classes being cancelled or the building closed.

_____  Decision will be assisted by Facilities and/or Public Safety staff that may be on site.

_____  Decision to cancel class will be made for the morning by 5:30 AM and an announcement will go out at 6:00 AM.  

_____  Decision to cancel class will be made for the afternoon by 9:30 AM and an announcement will go out at 10:00 AM.

_____  Decision to cancel class will be made for the evening by 2:30 PM and an announcement will go out at 3:00 PM.

_____  Campus Leader or designee will call the Director of Public Safety with cancellation of classes or closing of campus using the appropriate statistics as outlined in the Severe Weather Policy Chart and information from www.weather.com.

_____  Campus Leader or designee will put a message on the Emergency Hotline and remember to update it as necessary.

_____  Campus Leader or designee will activate their call tree as appropriate 


Director of Public Safety

_____  Director will contact appropriate Executive Vice Presidents who will then obtain permission from the University President.

_____  Director will then contact specific Campus Leader or designee to report the decision.

_____   Director will contact University Communications

_____  UComm will contact local TV and radio stations and update website.

_____  Public Safety will activate DU Alert to the affected campuses.
