Housing Application FAQs
Read below before you get started with your application!
Q: I need to pay a deposit and application fee! How can I pay that fee?
A: You will be directed to pay at the end of your application. If you do not make a payment, your application will not be considered complete. You will need to make a payment with a credit or debit card.
Q: I live in housing now and I'm planning on returning next fall. Do I need to pay another deposit?
A: Nope! Your deposit will roll-over from one year to the next.
Q: How do I know if my payment went through?
A: You will get a receipt to the email address you put in with your credit card information. If you don't get this email, likely one of two things occurred: there was a typo in your email address, or your payment did not go through. Feel free to give us a call if you didn't get this email.
Q: I don't have a credit or debit card. How can I make a payment?
A: Unfortunately, the payment does have to be made on a credit or debit card. Due to the way the deposit refund processing has to work, it is returned directly to that same card at the end of your time in housing.
Q: I only want to live in a certain building. Is there a way I can guarantee that?
A: Filling out the application is requesting to live ON CAMPUS overall. You can let us know your preference, but that is not a guarantee. We do take preferences into account when making placements, if available.
Q: I heard returners and transfer students get to choose their spaces.
A: If you apply before the Room Selection Deadline (listed below) and are a returning DU student you are eligible to participate in Room Selection. More details about room selection will be coming in late February.
While students do get to choose a room, and we do our best to honor those selections, sometimes changes must be made for various reasons. We will reach out directly if this happens.
Q: What are the requirements for living on campus?
A: It's simple! You must be in good academic standing, and registered for full time credits BEFORE you are able to move in (or are eligible for room selection). For undergraduate students, this means 12 credits. For graduate students, it's six.
Q: I might need accommodations with housing or dining? Who do I talk to in order to set that up?
A: Our Director of Campus Life oversees the accommodations process. We cannot guarantee accommodations are available after June 1st, 2025, but we will do everything we can to provide a housing placement that meets your needs!
Q: I'm not sure that I want to live on campus. Should I apply now or wait?
A: That is up to you, but applications are binding after June 1st, 2025. That means that if you apply and cancel before June 1st, you will get your housing deposit refunded. If you cancel after June 1st, you will forfeit your housing deposit.
Q: How do I make sure I get the roommates I want?
A: If you have specific roommates you want to live with, make sure you create a roommate group. This will need to be done before room selection for continuing students or by May 1 for new students.
- If you create a roommate group, make sure everyone accepts the (same) group. Then, only one person in your group will choose for all of you.
