About The Program
Davenport University Department of Public Safety strives to continuously build community partnerships, promote awareness, and focus on problem-solving in order to encourage a safe environment for those who learn, live, and work at Davenport University. Through collaborative efforts and unprecedented partnerships within the community, we have increased community trust, communication, and confidence in the services Davenport University Department of Public Safety offers to the community.
Community Engagement in Action
Davenport University Department of Public Safety recently received funding through the Davenport University M.E. Legacy Endowment Program to establish a therapy dog program. This created one of the first programs at an institution of higher education in the State of Michigan. This program was created to help improve officer interactions with students and staff. By creating a non-stressed environment, we are able to foster conversation about the role and services the Department of Public Safety provides for the university. The therapy dog will also work in conjunction with our wellness center to assist students seeking mental health help.
We are very excited to introduce Onyx!
Onyx is a 4-year-old black lab from PAWS With A Cause, a nonprofit organization based out of Wayland Michigan, that focuses on training Assistance, Service, and Facility therapy dogs. We are excited to have her join our team and can't wait to see what we will accomplish with her part of it.
