Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events
Course Overview
The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course, designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004, provides strategies, guidance, and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, civilian response options, medical issues, and considerations for conducting drills.
Davenport University Public Safety has worked to obtain CRASE certification through the Texas A&M University Engineering Extension Service. Training will be provided upon request to offices and departments only within the university.
CRASE courses are approximately 1 hour in length. Davenport-specific topics include:
- History and prevalence of active shooter events
- Avoid Deny Defend / Run Hide Fight methodology
