- Students in the Colleges of Arts & Sciences, Business, and Technology must complete 3 steps to achieve enrollment in an internship course. The standard internship for CoB and CoT students is for 3 credits = 150 hours (50 per credit) of work with the employer, during the Academic semester dates. Credits needed can vary and your Academic Advisor can guide you as to how many you need to graduate.
- The practicum and internship guidelines for students within the Mental Health Counseling programs are as follows: One practicum (MHLC 779) with 100 hrs. of fieldwork and two internships (MHLC 790A & MHLC 790B) with 300 hrs. of field-based work. Each 300-hour internship will be taken as a 3-credit course with combination of direct service with clients via the internship site and other supervised professional activities.
- The practicum and internship guidelines for students within the Urban Education programs are as follows: Year 1: Complete UEDU 151=30 hrs. of fieldwork experience. Year 2: UEDU 152= 30 hrs. of fieldwork experience, UEDU 191= 30 hrs. of fieldwork experience. UEDU 192= 75 hrs. with 30 hrs. of service and 45 contact hours of coursework. UEDU 240L=20 hrs. of literacy lab experience. Year 3: Complete UEDU 153=30 hrs. of fieldwork experience. UEDU 285= 15 hrs. of student observation. Year 4: Complete UEDU 154=30 hrs. of fieldwork.

STEP 1: GET PREPARED FOR YOUR INTERNSHIP/PRACTICUM COURSE ENROLLMENT PROCESS
TASK 1: Contact your Academic Advisor to verify the semester of Academic Eligibility for your Internship/Practicum Course and get added to the waitlist for that semester. You remain on the waitlist (at ZERO credits) until the position you are selected for makes it through the approval process - see STEP 3 below.
TASK 2: Meet with your Career Coach & Upload your résumé to your Handshake account - it needs to be in "Reviewed" status for you to find success in sending it to employers. If you get a "Changes Suggested" response, use the feedback provided and / or contact your Career Coach immediately for 1:1 assistance.

TASK 4: Respond to the Post Internship Workshop Survey – You only gain access to this required survey after completing the Online Internship Workshop. You must complete it to gain access to the Report an Internship / Experience Request portion of the website in STEP 3 below.
STEP 2: SEARCH FOR POSITIONS, APPLY, INTERVIEW & BE SELECTED!
It is your responsibility to find an internship relating to your major. Use all methods available to connect to employers locally, remotely across the country, and internationally. There are several options to help:
OPTION 1: Career coaches partner with Employers to increase Internship postings in Handshake. There are a wide variety of active Internships for all majors across the United States: Use the highlighted key words in your Internship Guide, linked below, then by course - to search for opportunities related to your degree and industry. Keywords and location settings will help you to filter the 2000+ listings, down to a honed list for you to work through.
FIND POSITIONS ON HANDSHAKE INTERNSHIP/PRACTICUM GUIDELINES BY PROGRAM
OPTION 2: Attend DU Career Fairs & other Career Services Events virtually or in-person to meet with various employers and ask them about potential Internships. Look at the events relevant to your degree from Employers and other schools too.
OPTION 3: Search specific Employer websites, use additional resources below & search engines like LinkedIn, Google for "Jobs" and Indeed.com:

- In Handshake, navigate to the Career Center tab and click "Experiences" to "Submit an Experience"
- You can message your Career Coach in the comments section of your submitted experience
