In the event of a Bomb Threat, the following actions are recommended by Davenport University.
If You Receive a Threat by Letter or Email
- Preserve the letter for investigation. The letter should not be handled after it is open
- Notify Public Safety who will notify local law enforcement
- Do NOT turn off lights, computers or appliances
- Do NOT close any doors or windows
- Do NOT use electronic wireless devices, two-way radios, intercom/paging system or the fire alarm
If You Receive a Threat by Phone
- Remain calm
- Attempt to keep the caller on the phone as long as possible
- Follow and complete the Bomb Threat Checklist
- Notify Public Safety who will notify local law enforcement
- Do NOT turn off lights, computers or appliances
- Do NOT close any doors or windows
- Do NOT use electronic wireless devices, two-way radios, intercom/paging system or the fire alarm
If an Actual Bomb is Discovered
- Notify Public Safety who will initiate a building-wide evacuation and contact local law enforcement
- Evacuate the immediate area quietly and calmly
- Take your personal items with you
- Do NOT assume that another bomb is not in the same general area
- Do NOT turn off lights, computers or appliances
- Do NOT close any doors or windows
- Do NOT use electronic wireless devices, two-way radios, intercom/paging system or the fire alarm
- Stand 300 or more feet away from the building and wait for permission from Public Safety to re-enter
