Network Responsible Use Agreement
Use of Davenport University network requires agreement to this policy. Click Here to read it.
General Instructions
The Davenport University "DU" wireless network uses a secure network access control protocol called 802.1X. Follow these general instructions to connect to the DU network.
First, start up your wireless computer, then:
- Activate your WiFi interface
- Connect to the DU wireless network
- A login prompt will appear (enter valid Davenport username and password)
Authenticate
Enter your regular login username and password. This is typically your first initial and last name, such as "jpublic". Please note: more common names may have incremental digits following the username, such as "jsmith19".
Please use DU-Guest if you do not have a Davenport username and password.
If you did not connect to the DU WiFi network, try the following:
- Verify your username/password is correct and that your password is not expired
- Move to a location in the building known to have wireless coverage
- Make sure that your wireless card is on and functional
- If you still cannot connect after a minute, please try to reboot
- Remove other wireless configurations
Unsupported Device Types
Although most devices will work with 802.1x authentication, there are a few that still do not support this method of network authentication. The following devices are known to not work on our DU wireless network:
- Sony Reader
- Kindle
- Chromecast
For these, and other devices that have trouble connecting to the DU network, we suggest you try to connect to the Resnet-Open network.
Campus
Getting connected to DU WiFi -
In order to access the secure DU network, you must be authenticated as a valid University student or staff member. Select your device type for detailed instructions on how to register for DU wireless, or follow the General Instructions above.
Getting connected to DU-Guest WiFi -
This network is insecure and has much slower data speeds. The DU-Guest network will require a few items of information before you are able to connect. Select your device type for detailed instructions on how to register for DU-Guest wireless.
Dorms/Apartments
Getting connected to Resnet WiFi -
We recommend joining Resnet network for most devices in the dorms and apartments. It uses 802.1x authentication which is your standard username/password just like the DU.
Resnet has relaxed content filtering.
IMPORTANT - Devices moving between campus and the dorms should stay on secure networks - DU or Resnet. If a device authenticates to a secure (DU or Resnet) network then moves to an insecure (Resnet-Open or Resnet-Gaming) network it will be required to register every time.
Example: A student goes to class and connects to DU. They head back to their dorm and connect to Resnet-Open. When they connect to Resnet-Open they will be required to log into the captive portal and register. They go to another class and connect to DU. Again, heading back to the dorm and connecting to Resnet-Open will require registration.
This is why we recommend using DU or Resnet on devices moving between the campus and the dorms.
Getting connected to Resnet-Open WiFi -
This network can be used for gaming devices, TV's, certain media players, and wireless printers which don't support 802.1x. It requires a Davenport username/password and registration of your device MAC/Wireless address. The below link provides general instructions on finding your MAC and registering common devices.
Important - For best results, register your device before connecting it to the wireless network.
- Register your media player or other device
All devices using Resnet-Open must be registered. You can check which devices you have registered here.
Getting connected to Resnet-Gaming WiFi -
This network is provided for situations where a game feature or functionality is blocked on Resnet. For example, some in-game VOIP chats may not work while on Resnet or Resnet-Open.
Important - For best results, register your device before connecting it to the wireless network.
All devices using Resnet-Gaming must be registered. You can check which devices you have registered here.
Only two devices per user are allowed to be registered with the gaming role.
