How to Apply for Your Interim Teaching Certification

  1. Connect with LaKenya Flippin, Certification Officer (lflippin1@davenport.edu)

  2. Complete the Interim Teaching Form so the CUE can review the request.

  3. Once completing the form and we have reviewed the application, staff will provide the green light to proceed with the application located at http://www.michigan.gov/MOECS. Candidate will create a log in (MEIS Account) and log into the system.

  4. There, the candidate will apply for an Interim Teaching Certificate, with the content area passed on the MTTC;

  5.  When the application is complete, email the certification officer so the application can be reviewed and approved

  6. Once approved, an email will be sent indicating that it’s time to pay. Once paid, print the certificate, have notarized, and submit to the respective employer

Note: The process is typically a week to two weeks.

Applying for your Standard Teaching Certificate

The Standard Teaching Certificate (STC), previously called the Provisional Certificate, is the first teaching certificate available to Michigan teacher candidates. This certificate allows teachers to provide instruction in the subject(s) and grade level(s) indicated on the certificate. Eligibility requirements for the Standard Certificate are as follows:

  • Completion of all alternative route to teacher certification coursework;

  • All conditions of observation were met; and

  • Taught effectively with the Interim Teaching Certificate (ITC) for a minimum of 3-years in the content areas and grade level indicated on the ITC.

Possessing an ITC has already provided candidates with a MEIS account, thus, application to the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS) is easier. Before application, there are some steps to complete.

  1. Contact your school administrator and inform of the application of the STC.

  2. Candidates will need their respective school administrator to send an official document to LaKenya Flippin, Certification Officer (lflippin1@davenport.edu) of the College showing 3-years of effective or highly effective teaching under the ITC in the content area and grade level

  3. The school administrator must directly send to the department chair for review.

  4. The review can take 1-2 weeks.

  5. Once complete, the candidate shall be informed to apply for the STC within MOECS.
