Middle Level Competitive Events

Important Information:

Students may enter up to TWO Regular (non-open) Events, only one of which may be a team event. Students may take as many Open Events as time allows at the conference. Davenport University will be providing computers and projectors that may be used for events, as well as internet access for all competing students.  Students are encouraged to bring their presentation on a flash drive and e-mail themselves their presentation for back-up purposes.

COMPETITIVE EVENTS

  • (915) Administrative Support Team - The team will function as an office staff to produce a variety of business documents.
  • (920)Digital Citizenship - Demonstrate the knowledge and understanding of respectful, responsible and ethical behavior in a digital world.
  • (940)Digital Game Design Team - Given a specific theme, teams will create a digital game to entertain and educate. Teams may use Scratch, Tynker, or other game engines to create the executable game.
  • (970)Entrepreneurship Exploration - To encourage students to have a better understanding of the American free enterprise system, contestants will conduct research on the assigned topic.
  • (975)Extemporaneous Speech - Demonstrate communication skills in arranging, organizing, and presenting information orally and effectively without prior knowledge of the topic.
  • (900)Financial Literacy - To develop a basic understanding of finance and accounting skills. Topics include an understanding of checking and savings accounts, debits and credits, credit cards, budgets, etc.
  • (945)Graphic Design Promotion - Develop a theme, illustrate the theme in a logo design, and then utilize the logo in a promotional flyer.
  • (990)Human Resource Exploration - Assess proficiency in a career exploration and interview situations. Pre-submitted event. Create a job posting and create a personal statement (similar to a resume) for submission.
  • (950)Video Production Team - Create a one-minute video production based upon the assigned topic
  • (980)Prepared Speech - To provide the student an opportunity to demonstrate communication skills in securing, arranging, organizing, and orally presenting information.
  • (985)Presentation Team - Assess use of current desktop technologies and software to prepare and deliver an effective multimedia presentation.
  • (930)Spreadsheet Applications - Contestants will enter and format data, enter and copy formulas, and print full documents or cell contents.
  • (955)Web Site Design Team - The team will work together to create a Web site based on the provided topic.
  • (925)Word Processing - Evaluate entry-level skills in keyboarding and document production.
  • (960)Visual Design Team - Create a brand image for a mobile application based on the topic provided. (Not following Copyright and/or Fair Use Guidelines will result in disqualification) 

 

OPEN EVENTS

  • Business Communication Skills Concepts – Open - To develop skills in business communications, including spelling rules, correct spelling of often-used business words, and correct use of grammar.
  • Business Fundamentals Concepts – Open - To develop an overall familiarity with basic business knowledge skills.
  • Business Math Concepts – Open - To develop a basic understanding of personal and business-related math skills.
  • Computer Literacy Concepts – Open - To develop a basic understanding of computer terminology related to operating systems, hardware components, software applications, and digital citizenship.

Virtual events occur at the national level. Judging and presentations occur virtually. The top 10 entrants are invited to the national conference. The entry fee is $10 for individual events and $20 for team events. Register for virtual events by December 1.
