Students are held to the concepts of integrity, civility, and accountability through a lens of education and personal development, and in alignment with the values of the greater Davenport University community
As part of the Davenport University community, every student is responsible for knowing, and following Davenport's policies, and being familiar with the University's expectation of personal integrity, civil responsibility, and professional and academic accountability.
If You Violate the Student Code of Conduct
If your behavior is inconsistent with Davenport policy, the judicial process can be initiated if the event occurs in or out of the classroom or on or off campus.
- You will be notified through your Davenport email that a violation has been filed.
- You will be invited to attend a hearing.
- At the hearing, you will be able to discuss the charges and a determination will be made.
- If you are found in violation, sanctions may be imposed on you.
What are Sanctions?
Sanctions are steps taken to ensure that no additional violations occur. Sanctions range from a formal warning or probation to suspension or dismissal, based on the severity of the violation. Specific, discretionary sanctions may be imposed (i.e. restoration following an act of vandalism) related to the violation.
What if I Disagree with a Determination?
Appeals must be filed in writing within three (3) business days after receipt of the written notification of decision and contain one of the following: (a) new relevant material evidence or information that could not have been discovered at the time of the hearing; (b) procedural error that can be shown to have had a detrimental impact on the outcome of the hearing; such as bias or errors in the interpretation of University policy; (c) the sanction(s) imposed were not appropriate for the violation.
Students at the University have the same rights and protections under the Constitutions of the United States and the State of Michigan as other citizens. These rights include freedom of expression, press, religion, and assembly. The University has a long tradition of student activism and values freedom of expression, which includes voicing unpopular views and dissent. As members of the University community, students have the right to express their views but must do so appropriately and professionally.
Student Rights:
Students have the right to be treated fairly and with dignity regardless of race, color, national origin, age, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, religion, height, weight, or veteran status. The University has a long-standing tradition of commitment to pluralistic education. Accordingly, the University, through this Statement, will not unlawfully discriminate on the basis of protected group status.
Students have the right to be protected from capricious decision-making by the University and to have access to University policies that affect them. The University has an enduring commitment to provide students with a balanced and fair system of dispute resolution. Accordingly, the University will not deprive students of the appropriate due process protections to which they are entitled, and do operate separately from any court of law.
Student Responsibilities:
Students are responsible for living per the principles and provisions of the Student Code of Conduct and the University community. Students are also responsible for living within the Local, State, and Federal legal guidelines. Students who choose to violate these responsibilities will be subject to due process under the guidelines of Davenport University’s policies.
