Steps for Success

Step 1 Apply for Admission

Step 2 Complete your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

  • The FAFSA is a Federal Government form which establishes a baseline for eligibility for nearly all types of financial aid.
  • The FAFSA is free.
  • When you submit the FAFSA, the information goes to the US Department of Education.
  • You will need Davenport's school code if you wish to have your FAFSA information sent to our Financial Aid Office; Davenport's school code is 002249.
  • The Department of Education will then determine your EFC (Expected Family Contribution), which determines your eligibility for various federal and state financial aid programs and for Davenport scholarships.
  • This information is sent to Davenport, which then reviews your eligibility for a wide variety of financial aid programs.

Step 3 Review your Student Aid Report (SAR) and make corrections if needed.

  • You can make corrections on the FAFSA web site.

Step 4 Review your status on the Davenportal

  • Review all communication and emails that Davenport send to you
  • Submit any requests for additional information if required

Step 5 Review your award letter on the Davenportal.

Step 6 If you requested Direct Student Loans, you may need to complete Entrance Loan Counseling and a Master Promissory.

  • Note: Review the loan section under Types of Aid for additional information.

Step 7 If your Parents have applied for a PLUS loan, they will also need to complete a Master Promissory Note and a PLUS request form for processing.

Step 8 Apply for scholarships

Step 9 Read through the information on Michigan programs and make sure that Davenport's federal code of 002249 is listed first on your FAFSA in the section for your college choices.

Step 10 Check out student employment information.

Financial aid can change

The Davenport Financial Aid Office must follow Federal, state, and Davenport guidelines which can affect your aid. Report any significant changes to your financial aid counselor, such as a change in your residency, enrollment status, other scholarships you receive, a loss of employment, or any severe situation that may affect your ability to pay for your education.
