With expertise in obstetrics, gynecology and family practice, Jess Abernathy serves as a Lead Instructor in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program. In this role, Jess is engaged in course development and evaluation as well as teaching in both didactic and clinical courses.

A Nurse Practitioner for over 18 years, Jess has remained in the same obstetrics and gynecology private practice for 15 years. In that position, she has been a preceptor to many health care professional students. Her previous experience includes working in the specialties of gynecologic oncology, infertility, retail health and urgent care. Jess has taught in the nursing profession at varying levels from RN to MSN level programs both online and traditional classroom settings.

Jess has a keen interest in adolescent gynecology, care of vulnerable populations, obesity and improving maternal health in the United States. She is currently enrolled in the DNP program at Wilmington University.

Jess is a local and national speaker for several pharmaceutical companies, providing continuing medical education and training to medical and nursing students, nurse practitioners and physicians. She is also a principle investigator (PI) and sub-investigator (SI) for several clinical trials for new medications in the women’s health specialty. Jess is considered a thought leader in women’s health in Baltimore, Maryland where she currently resides.
