MSN from University of Phoenix, 2009
BSN from University of Detroit, 1997
Warren Campus

Professor Shaw has served as a nursing instructor and Associate Department Chair (ADC) of Nursing for the Warren campus since 2009. Overseeing the LPN certificate program and BSN-pre-licensure program includes responsibilities such as curriculum implementation and ongoing evaluation. Additionally as ADC, she works collaboratively with nursing leadership team, and is responsible for hiring, mentoring, and supporting full time, and adjunct nursing faculty. Professor Shaw also serves as a faculty member within the nursing program, teaching specialty areas such as Fundamentals of Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, and Pediatrics, to name a few. Along with teaching in-seat, she is certified in teaching in the online environment. Student mentorship is a large portion of her teaching philosophy, as the education process extends well beyond the classroom, into discussion and critical thinking during office hours as well.

Professor Shaw began her nursing career in 1997 as a pediatric BSN-RN. While working primarily in pediatrics focusing on patient and family care, she became extremely passionate about the education component. After enhancing her patient population by caring for the general adult health population, she completed her MSN in Education, and began her teaching career with Davenport University. She is community focused and truly appreciates the need for skilled, knowledgeable, caring nurses. Her recent development of a DU nursing camp at the Warren campus will benefit the community by incorporating current DU nursing students into an education based event, exposing high school students to college, nursing curriculum, and technical as well as success skills. Professor Shaw serves her community by teaching youth religious education at her parish, and is a member on Operation RX-Macomb County.
