Business & Industry Projects

At Davenport, students can engage with real-world professionals in business and industry through class-based projects, field trips, and job shadowing opportunities. Many of our faculty also work in business and industry and bring their knowledge and experience to the classroom. As a form of experiential learning, business & industry projects allow students to test out classroom theories in a real setting by acting as consultants to your organization, learn from current professionals in the field, and form important career networking relationships and self management / leadership skills.

Here are some examples of recent Business & Industry projects:

MKTG 310: Consumer Behavior

  • Students completed research and presented recommendations on marketing Mercantile Bank to the Millennial Generation

BUSN 403: Business Research

MGMT 440: Strategic Management

  • Students completed a business plan for ZZ Performance, an aftermarket automotive parts supplier

BUSN 489: Field Experience in Business

  • Students completed a business plan for The Professional Panther, a professional clothing closet for Davenport's students used to equip them with the necessary clothing for a professional interview; it has since expanded to include food and hygiene products

TECH 489: Field Experience in Technology

  • Students built an 'Interactive Map' for contacting the Davenport Career Services team members, providing the opportunity to pinpoint any student's advisor based on their preferences.
