Real-Time Virtual Learning (RTV)

Welcome to the Real-Time Virtual Learning Environment!

WHAT IS REAL TIME VIRTUAL LEARNING?

The Real Time Virtual Learning format ( RTV) combines In-Seat classrooms with synchronous (real time) online technology.  Classes are held at a scheduled time and are designed to give students a convenient option when they might not be able to find the course on a local campus. This is an instructional format where you log in to your Blackboard course shell and use Collaborate Ultra in the comfort of your home, work, library, favorite coffee shop, or campus and join the instructor and other students for a class session.  Imagine taking a traditional course on campus except through your computer similar to using Skype, WebEx, Apple FaceTime, Zoom, etc.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Students and faculty meet virtually in an online classroom through web conferencing equipment including a camera and headset with microphone to provide a rich, interactive "virtual" classroom. Blackboard Collaborate is the featured delivery tool in the RTV course format.  Faculty deliver key learning components, including short lectures, discussions, activities and group projects through this technology.  However, faculty also use Blackboard Learn, the parent system for Blackboard Collaborate, to house course materials, including assignments, assessments, and supplemental content, to create a robust learning environment.

WHERE DO I GO FOR CLASS?

Students can meet on-campus in computer labs, dedicated space for RTV, or at any off-campus location of their choosing provided it is equipped with a broadband internet connection (e.g. their primary office space, or their home). If you attend on campus, you will need to provide a USB headset with a microphone.  DU technical support is available via phone as needed throughout the semester.
